How It All Began-The Professional Golfers’ Association of America

Image
Founded in 1916 the PGA has grown to become the world’s largest sports organization, and has extended membership to some of the best golfers in the world. Officially formed April 10, 1916 the founder suggested that an annual tournament be held with an offer to donate money for the trophy and prize and in October the first PGA Championship was held at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. Lewis Rodman Wanamaker  the founder of the PGA, in that same year served as a presidential elector. Over the years the membership of the PGA has grown, and it now has over 29,000 members. In 1968 was the birthing of the PGA Tour, and is one of four major golf tournaments. The Professional Golfers’Association of America is headquartered in Frisco, Texas after moving from Palm Beach, Florida. The PGA Tour is held all around North America (primarily The United States). The LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) is a separate organization, but both the PGA and the LPGA has joined forces

Golf Legends - A Race To The Masters!

Image
IN THE BEGINNING            Started in the 1930’s by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts . The Masters , becoming one of the most sought after and admired tournaments, has over the years reeled in some of golf’s most prominent professionals. The Masters Tournament which is normally held in the month of April is traditionally held at a private club in Augusta, Georgia built by Bobby Jones along with architect Alister MacKenzie . THE GREEN JACKET      The first tournament was played in 1934, and the pool of players is a small one compared to the other championship tournaments, because The Masters is by invitation only. Let’s move on to the distinctive green jacket. Since the 1949 Masters , the tournament champion would receive a green jacket. (1. Golf Did You Know Fact?) The green jacket must be returned to the clubhouse one year after victory, but remains the champion’s personal property. A repeated champion will use the same jacket, unless the golfer needs to be resized. These jacket

Golfers use different kinds of clubs for different types of shots. Woods for long distance shots, putters to gently roll the ball into the cup, and irons for everything in between.

What is a Low Lofted Golf Club?

Image
Every golfer has the same goal, which is to hit the ball as high and as far as they can. The lofts on a golf club have a big effect on how much spin and launch the ball gets, which in turn affects how far the ball goes. What is the loft on a golf club? The loft of a golf club refers to the angle formed between the clubface and the ground when viewed from above. You might think of the loft as the amount that the clubface is angled upwards relative to the shaft, or you can think of it as the amount that the top portion of the clubface is angled back relative to the shaft. A low lofted golf club has a face that is much more vertical than a high-lofted golf club. This means that the ball travels at a lower height when it is struck by the club. You can change your loft even more by changing the angle at which your wrists are placed. Different shots require different trajectories, which is why manufacturers of golf clubs create models with a variety of lofts. The driver has the least amoun

How Many Golf Clubs Should Be In a Bag?

Image
Golfers are allowed to have 14 clubs in bag, I know you're wondering what those clubs are. So, what are the 14 clubs in a golf bag?   Golfers are allowed to have up to 14 clubs in a golf bag, each serving a specific purpose. The most common setup is: Driver Pitching wedge Sand wedge Gap wedge Lob wedge 3-wood 5-wood Putter 5 iron 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron 4 hybrid A golf club is what’s used by golfers to hit the golf ball. They are typically made to have a long shaft, a grip, and a club head. Each club has what’s called a loft angle. This helps with creating a specific trajectory for the golf ball when it is hit. Driver The golf driver’s use is very simple: this is typically the club used to tee off because it allows the golfer to hit the ball a great distance. For that reason, a driver is usually the first club that a golfer reaches for in the bag or  golf push cart . Sometimes it might be used on the fairway, but that’s very rare. Wedges The wedges are used for short, high sh

Important Things to Know about Golf Swing Speed.

Image
In golf, the skill that gets the most attention is swing speed. Everyone likes to swing out of their shoes once in a while; it's in our nature. I want my drives to run further! And I often hear this correlation between swing speed and distance from golf instructors. But, the factors that work better in golf swing speed are connection, tempo, and timing.   Increasing your swing speed would be the best way to develop distance. You can gain around three yards for every mile per hour you increase your swing speed. And if you can raise your swing speed by five miles per hour, you can hit the ball around 15 yards farther. I also agree that increasing your club head speed, golf ball speed, and miles per hour will help you hit the ball farther.   Note that, golfers with lower handicaps typically have longer driver distances. While senior golfers are less flexible or have a lower point of impact than more advanced players. So, why do advanced players have such longer drives than amateurs?

What is a golf handicap? Know your golf game.

Image
Ah, the golf handicap. It might be the most daunting term in any new golfer’s vocabulary. But once you understand what it is, and how to calculate it, your golf game will benefit from a host of new opportunities - especially if you’re eager to start playing competitively. If you’re looking to incorporate a golf handicap into your scoring, this guide will go a  fairway  to  putting  you on the road to success. What is a golf handicap? Colloquially known as the ‘great equalizer’, a golf handicap is a key feature in any competitive game of golf.  The concept of handicapping  can be traced back to the 17th century  while the modern model has been used for over a century too, although it is updated on a semi-regular basis. In short, a golf handicap is a number that gauges a golfer’s ability. As with most scores related to the game of golf, a low number is better than a high number. When playing a round of golf, the handicap figure is subtracted from a player’s score. An accurate handicap

What hand do you wear your golf glove on?

Image
There are loads of different   golf accessories   out there that all the pros will claim helped them be brilliant. Of all the various things you can buy, a golf glove is one of the most popular. Regardless of your handicap, you’ll see everyone on the course donning at least one golf glove during their rounds.  When it comes to buying golf gloves, you have a couple of big questions to ask. Most notably, what hand do you wear your golf glove on? Are there any strict rules or can you just do whatever feels right?  Wear Your Golf Glove On Your Non-Dominant Hand How do you play golf? Are you playing right-handed or left-handed? Whichever hand you use, your golf glove will go on the opposite one. This isn’t a strict rule, but it is traditionally what most pros and experts recommend.  The main reason people do this is to improve their grip on the club. Likewise, a golf glove can prevent blisters when you’re playing for ages. By wearing the glove on your non-dominant hand, you have it on the
